Fellowship for Latin America
The American Society for Microbiology is accepting applications for
the 2004 ASM International Fellowship Program. The goal of this ASM
Program is to encourage research and training collaborations in
microbiological sciences. Applicants must be researchers from Bolivia,
Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, or Peru, holders of
Masters, PhD, or other equivalent academic degrees, and with at least
five years of laboratory experience in the area of bacterial
resistance to antimicrobials.
Deadline: April 15 and October 15 annually

Activity
organized by the Office of Education, Science, and Technology of the
Executive Secretariat for Integral Development of the Organization of
American States, in collaboration with the Summits of the Americas
Secretariat and the General Coordination of the
Forums for the Participation
of Civil Society of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and
Worship of the Republic of Argentina, and the Secretariat for Science,
Technology, and Productive Innovation of the Ministry of Education, Science
and Technology of the Republic of Argentina. The event will be held under
the co-auspices of Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.
PARTICIPANTS:
Representative
organizations of civil society linked to science, technology, engineering,
innovation and science education that are participating in the follow-up of
the mandates and preparatory process for the IV Summit of the Americas that
will take place in November of 2005.

Auditorium of the Institute of Foreign Service of the Nation (ISEN), Annex
C, 5th Floor, Buenos Aires, Argentina. To be held on September 5,
2005.
OBJECTIVE:
To prepare a
document containing reflections and recommendations on the fundamental role
of science, technology, engineering, innovation and science education in the
development of the Hemisphere with particular focus on the central themes of
the IV Summit: creating decent jobs for the fight against poverty and
strengthening of democratic governance. This document will be presented at
the XL meeting of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG), on the 8th
of September of 2005 in Buenos Aires, as well as the Regional Forum with
Civil Society “Creating Work to Fight Poverty and Strengthen Democratic
Governance” to take place in the same city on the 6th and 7th
of September of 2005.
