The second Workshop, Scientific and
Technological Development in the Americas
was held in Quito, Ecuador, November 10 – 12,
2003, and was coordinated by the Fundación para
la Ciencia y Tecnología (FUNDACYT) of Ecuador
and the Office of Science and Technology of the
OAS. Experts from ten OAS Member States
participated in the Workshop.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) of
United States supported the effort by financing
the participation of 10 of the thirty-one experts
of the region that participated in the Workshop,
and its four working groups in the areas of
Materials and Nanotechnology, Clean Technologies,
Advanced Networks and Information Infrastructure
and Biotechnology.
The final Workshop report will be available
shortly, and will include cross-reference topics
discussed, such as regional and national
strategies, human resource development,
professional infrastructure, research
infrastructure and connections with the private
sector.
