The Project's main
objective is to generate science and technology policies and strategies for
the Americas in the priority areas defined by the COMCYT.
The policies and
recommendations that result from this project will provide the substantive
agenda for the Hemispheric Meeting of Ministers and High Officials in
Science and Technology scheduled for November 2004. This agenda will enable
both the review and update of mandates formulated at the last Ministerial
meeting in 1996, and the formulation of new mandates to strengthen science
and technology development in the Americas, in the 21st century.
The project has five
components, the first four of which respond to the following COMCYT-defined
priority areas and a fifth component on consolidation
-
Science, Technology and Innovation to
Increase Competitiveness in the Productive Sector; held in Buenos Aires, Argentina;
November 17-19 2003
-
Scientific and
Technological Development in the Americas,
held in Quito, Ecuador; December 10 - 12, 2004.
-
Popularization of Science, took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; February 02 -05, 2004.
-
Science and Technology for Social Development;
took place in Kingston, Jamaica; March 03 -0 5, 2004.
-
Consolidation of Hemispheric Policies in Science and Technology, to be held
in OAS Headquarters in Washington D.C. on April 14, 2004.
The fifth component, Consolidation of
Hemispheric Policies in Science and Technology will have a different
procedure, since the official
COMCYT delegates will revise the proposals obtained from the workshops
and elaborate a final document that will consolidate the Hemispheric
Policies in Science and Technology.
This document will be analyzed in the
fifth workshop and subsequently revised and discussed by the COMCYT during
its Fourth Ordinary
Meeting which then will remit the document to the First
Hemispheric Meeting of Ministers and High Officials of Science and
Technology in the Scope of CIDI.
